Working alongside medical, operational, and logistics professionals, you will play a critical role in assessing complex medical cases, supporting medical evacuations and repatriations, reviewing treatment plans, and helping ensure high-quality, cost-effective patient outcomes.

- Hours of Work: 4 long days per week 10 hour days 07:30 - 17:30
- Reporting Line: Chief Nursing Officer
- Employment Eligibility: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Australia. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
About the Role
As a Nursing Officer, you will provide clinical expertise to support operational decision-making through the review, analysis, and interpretation of medical information. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to assess medical necessity, monitor ongoing care, evaluate evacuation and repatriation requirements, and identify opportunities for cost containment while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
This role is ideal for a clinically experienced nurse who enjoys critical thinking, autonomous decision-making, and working within a fast-paced international healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain and review verbal and written medical updates for inpatient cases.
- Analyze treatment received and proposed plans of care in real time.
- Assess medical necessity, ongoing treatment requirements, and suitability for medical evacuation or repatriation.
- Identify and recommend cost-containment strategies while safeguarding quality patient outcomes.
- Provide clinical guidance regarding acute versus pre-existing medical conditions.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of past medical history and collaborate with operations teams to determine policy coverage and benefits.
- Partner with operations, equipment managers, and flight teams to ensure appropriate clinical staffing and equipment for escorted repatriations.
- Provide telephone and email-based travel health advice to individual travellers and corporate clients.
- Advocate for patients and provide health education when appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy of sensitive medical information.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education.
- Support quality management initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
- Document and escalate customer concerns or dissatisfaction when required.
- Provide out-of-hours support for urgent precertification requests and clinical reviews.
- Undertake additional duties as required.
About You
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, illness, and injury.
- A flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
- Emergency Nursing
- Intensive Care (ICU)
- Critical Care
- Prehospital or Retrieval Medicine
- A 6-week intensive in-person training program, and
- Up to 5 months of additional hybrid training and development during the probation period.
Desirable Skills & Experience
We would love to hear from candidates with any of the following:
- Flight nursing or aeromedical retrieval qualifications/training.
- Aeromedical retrieval experience.
- Assistance or medical case management experience.
- International private medical case management experience.
- Pre-authorization or utilization review experience.
- Teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience.
- Personal or professional international travel experience.
- Foreign language skills.
